Born in Fafe, José Teixeira started his musical studies at the José Atalaya Music Academy, in the class of Carlos Lima. In 2015 he graduated from the Instrumental Secondary Course (guitar variant), having received an average rating of 19 values in the music area subjects. In the same year he joined the Music Course at the University of Minho – Classical Guitar in the class of Professor Ricardo Barceló. He finished his degree in 2018, obtaining top grades in Guitar.
José Teixeira regularly performs solo pieces, with orchestra and within various chamber music groups, at auditions, concerts and recitals. He also participates in competitions, among which one should highlight: the 3
rd Prize at the Paços Premium Contest (top level) and the Honourable Mention at the International Guitar Competition of Leiria (higher level) in 2018; the Honourable Mention at the Cidade de Almada International Competition in 2014 (solo) and also the Honourable Mention at the Gilberto Paiva Contest (higher level) in 2014 (Chamber Music Category).
In 2012 he was invited to join the Portuguese Guitar and Mandolin Orchestra (OPGB), where he still performs as reinforcement, working with illustrious conductors such as Juan Carlos Muñoz, Sérgio Luiz Ferreira, Luís Machado, José Eduardo Gomes, Paulo Martins, among others; and with soloists such as Rui Gama and Hauxing Liang. With the OPGB he has also participated in world and national premieres of various works from the contemporary repertoire, as well as in the recording of the CD
Pleiades, a pioneering edition when it comes to plectrum music in Portugal.
José Teixeira worked with guitarists, such as Dejan Ivanović, João Campos, José Pedro Coelho, Mak Grgic, Pedro Jesús Gomes, Fernando Espí, Norma Lutzemberger and Daniel Wolff. In 2018, together with guitarist
Luís Miguel Leite, he started a recital cycle entitled
Música Contemporânea Portuguesa para Guitarra (
Contemporary Portuguese Music for Guitar), with the aim of promoting Portuguese contemporary music for guitar. In this sense he has been touring throughout the country, what has resulted in a homonymous CD album, released in 2020.
Presently he is a teacher at the Basto and Cabeceiras de Basto Music Academy.
