"Le Bleu Profond" takes as its starting point a work from 1995 entitled "Parfaire Le Bleu" which had two versions: one for flute and harpsichord and another for clarinet and piano but both were removed from my catalogue.
However over the years I always had in mind that the material used for the composition of this piece deserved to be revisited and recovered and when Elsa Silva and Nuno Pinto challenged me to write a piece for them, this was the first material to which I have resorted. The qualities that I’ve rediscovered were sufficient to justify "resurrect" it and carry out a thorough revision. Reworking twenty years later on an abandoned piece was an extraordinary exercise of self-knowledge as a composer.
Underlying the writing of this piece was a desire for renewal of contrapuntal techniques through the overlapping of "tempi" and the modulation of these same “tempi” through acceleration and "ralentando".
This piece is dedicated as ever to Paula, but also to Elsa and Nuno.
