Miguel Resende Bastos is a young composer of contemporary classical music from Porto, Portugal, currently based in Germany. His main influences are the art movements and composers from the twentieth and twenty first centuries, as well as his teachers: the composers Dimitris Andrikopoulos, Ivo Medek, René Uijlenhoet and Robin de Raaff, with whom he studied in Porto, Brno, and Rotterdam. He’s also had the opportunity to meet and learn from world-renowned composers such as Unsuk Chin, Helmut Lachenmann, Frederic Rzewski, Trevor Wishart and George Benjamin. He was twice awarded for his works exploring the relationship between music and literature, having composed for orchestra, chamber music, spoken text, opera and electronic music, as well as music for dance. His works have been premiered and performed in theatres and concert halls in Portugal, Germany and the Netherlands. For the 2020-21 season, he is Composer in Residence with MPMP, an organization based in Lisbon, dedicated to the curation and promotion of Portuguese music.
