António Ferreira was born in Angola to Portuguese parents. In Portugal, between 1980-83, he studied engineering at the Technical Superior Institute in Lisbon (IST), simultaneously having become conscious of his interests towards music composition by means of computer.

He formalized this interest of his after having enrolled in the Royal Conservatoire of the Hague. There, between 1986-87, he took the sonology course and studied composition, analogue and digital synthesis, psychoacoustics and digital interactive music, with Paul Berg, Konrad Boehmer, Joel Ryan, Simon Teemplaars and Jaap Vink.

António Ferreira gave various public performances of his interactive compositions: at the Royal Conservatoire of the Hague, in Amsterdam at the STEIM (Studio for Electro-Instrumental Music), at the Art Academy Den Bosch and the ICMC 1988 (International Computer Music Association) in Cologne, Germany. His electroacoustic compositions have been presented at various national (Música Viva, Aveiro Festival) and international festivals – in France (Paris, Bourges, Besançon), Norway, Denmark, USA, Italy, Cuba, Hungary, the UK, Czech Republic, Ireland, Brazil and Poland.

Since 1989 António Ferreira has been also working as advisor and expert in sound pollution and bioacoustics at the Centre of Analysis and Sound Processing of the Complex no. 1 at the IST. There he has carried out countless studies on the environmental impact of noise. He has also published and presented various papers at international conferences, in collaboration with the professors Bento Coelho and Manuel Eduardo dos Santos – on bioacoustics, underwater acoustics and noise pollution.

Since 1998, as a freelance composer, António Ferreira has specialized in the composition of electroacoustic music. He released various albums featuring his own original compositions. He received several awards and nominations, being finalist at the Metamorphoses Acousmatic Music Competition (2010, 2004), at Musica NOVA (2004, 2006), Prix Ton Bruynèl (2003), Prix Pierre Schaeffer (2003), at BIMESP, São Paulo Brazil (2007), and at the Electroacoustic Music Competition in Bourges (2001, 2003, 2006, 2008). He also won the 1st prize (ex-aequo) at the International Electroacoustic Music Composition Competition, Música Viva 2013.

In 2015, 2016 and 2017 António Ferreira was jury member at the International Computer Music Conference (ICMA), within the scope of electroacoustic and mixed music.
