Program Notes
There are works where I look for the creation of a Lubramix, which is my musical expression for the fusion of the Portuguese and the Brazilian into a third entity, entering the Lubra condition. For this reason, the present work includes poetry from both countries, intertwining their poetic voices in a music that I intend to be a whole:
- Statutes of Man by the Brazilian poet Tiago Melo serves as the central axis of the work, and sings about human fraternity.
- Herberto Hélder is present with the text Ancient Waters, a translation of a Navajo poem where the dense and concise expression describes the Atlantic, the sea of immigrants between Brazil and Portugal: “…the old water, crossed my spirit”.
- Two poems by Sophia de Melo Breyner are here musicalized – the poem Lilies, which dreams of “lucid delusions”, and Seagull celebrating those who “sing in bad weather”. Lubramix IV is a manifesto about the hope that we all need so much, which always starts with dreams transforming the Man.
