Program Notes
Cadenzares was composed for a vigorous ensemble, structured over wide variations in density, based on the concept of cadenza – individual and virtuosic intervention, used as an interruptive element. Its expressive load is driven by the breaks that the solos impose on the tutti, and along with these dramatic breaks there are the extreme timbres – as it is done, for example, with the trio of flutes, the amplified acoustic guitar, the trombone or the effects of percussion. These components give rise to an intense, touching environment, where sonorities intersect in loose, colourful blocks, and extensive melodies floating on quicksand.
