Sílvia Mendonça was born in Marinha Grande, August 1977. As a composer, she has been awarded with two honorable mentions: 2nd prize of the Internacional contest of composition, Fernando Lopes Graça (2011) with the work Rewind for Harpsichord, and 1st Contest of Composition D.Dinis (2011) with the work Manta de Poemas, Antero de Alda poetry; involvement in ENOA – Composition Workshop for Voice and Orchestra coordinated by Festival d’Aix en Provence, with Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian support, directed by Luca Francesconi, in cooperation with the Gulbenkian Orchestra, with the work I am the es-caped one, Fernando Pessoa poetry (2012); has participated in the 6th and 7th Workshops from Gulbenki-an Orchestra for Young Portuguese composers with Pictures of Green (2008) and Cubo (2009).
Has participated in Soundwalk – CCB, Lisbon, integrated in Festival Música Viva (2009) – Miso Music Por-tugal with the work Biopsy, and in “Novos Ciclos por segundo” – Miso Music Portugal, with the work Gun-ners; video and sound setup Destroyed Object in Apleton Square Galery,(2008). Artistic Residence (2010) – LEC/Miso Music Portugal – Parede – Portugal, with ComposerVersusHeartbeats project.
Some of her works were premiered in contests, namely “Death Vision (On a January day)” for solo flute, work commissioned by Antena 2 / RTP for the Prémio Jovens Músicos (2013), and “Des pas sur l'invisible” for solo Clarinet or saxophone for the Prémio de Interpretação Frederico de Freitas/Universidade de Aveiro (2016). Graduated in Compositon – ESMAE (Escola Superior de Música, Artes e Espetáculo do Porto, 2013) and ESML (Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, 2009) and in Industrial Design – ESAD (Escola Superior de Arte e Design de Caldas da Rainha, 2001). Attending a doctorate degree in Composition in UA (Univer-sidade de Aveiro), since 2014. As a composer and researcher, her research focuses on artistic creation processes, in which she develops the 7CPS project, a work in partnership with Sofia Gomes, visual artist and piano tuner.
