Activities of the composers published by the mic.pt
Jaime Reis
Jaime Reis is preparing another edition of the DME Festival at Collegium Musicum in Seia. This will be the edition 33/52, taking place between the 24th and 26th February, and it will welcome the composers Agustin Castilla-Avila, Astrid Rieder, among others. The composer published by the MIC.PT will also be present at the 1st Congress of Specialized Artistic Education, where he will speak at the discussion board Técnicas e linguagens contemporâneas no ensino do instrumento musical, on the 5th February, at Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian.
João Pedro Oliveira
The work Petals by João Pedro Oliveira was selected for the Official Selection of London Independent Film Awards. Recently some works of the composer published by the MIC.PT were also edited on CD, namely: In Tempore and Mosaic performed by Ana Cláudia Assis on the CD Sonoridades [edition: Minas de Som (Brasil)], and Iris performed by Grup XXI on the CD Landscape and Apocalypse [edition Solfa (Barcelona)]. The composer will also have the premiere of his work Jet for flute and electronics, performed by Morgana Patriarca on the 9th February at Encontros Nova Música, in Vila do Conde.
Igor C. Silva
Igor C. Silva will have his works Smart-alienation and Your Trash performed by Trash Panda Collective at a GWM Sessies concert, at Muziekhuis in Utrecht, on 11th February. The composer published by the MIC.PT will also have the premiere of his work Plastic Air, for flexible duo, electronics and video/light, on the 16th February, at Splendor in Amsterdam. On 23rd February, the composer will have his works Smart-alienation, Your Trash and Frames #87 performed at the EAW conference (Universidade de Aveiro) on the subject Music and Image.
Morgana Patriarca premieres works by portuguese composers
The flutist Morgana Patriarca will premiere, on the 9th February at Encontros Nova Música in Vila do Conde, the following works by portuguese composers published by the MIC.PT: Canto de Magdala for flute and electronics by Eduardo Luís Patriarca, +cant for solo flute by Nuno Peixoto de Pinho, Para Morgana for solo flute by Isabel Soveral, Indizível for flute and piano by Paulo Bastos, Fata Morgana for flute and piano by Amílcar Vasques Dias, and Jet for flute and electronics by João Pedro Oliveira. This concert will take place at Teatro Municipal de Vila do Conde and will also have the guest pianist Bernardo Soares.
Ricardo Matosinhos
The composer published by the MIC.PT, Ricardo Matosinhos, will have his work Os contos do oboé, Op.73, for oboe and piano, premiered by Courtney Miller and Alan Huckleberry, on 9th February, at University of Iowa, in the United States of America. The performance of the work will be repeated in a series of 7 recitals in the United States of America until March 15. At the same time these concerts are part of the preparation for a CD recording with only portuguese music.

Pedro Amaral

On the 4th February, Pedro Amaral, composer published by the MIC.PT, will have his work Paraphrase performed by the Orquestra Metropolitana de Lisboa and conducted by Pedro Neves, in Lisboa, at Teatro Thalia.

Paula and Miguel Azguime

Following on their Salt Itinerary performance, Paula and Miguel Azguime, composers published by the MIC.PT, will be in residence at O’culto da Ajuda in February to further develop their current New Op-Era in progress, together with Gilberto Bernardes and Andre Bartetzki, computer music wizards, developing new interactive strategies for spacialization and live processing the voice, movement and image. Andre Bartetzki presence within this new Azguime’s project was made possible by a partnership with the Goethe Institut in Lisbon.
MIC.PT Highlights
New Scores on the MIC.PT
This month the MIC.PT publishes and provides online five new scores. That is: Fragment/ Fragrance (2016) for soprano and flute, Le Rêve Loin... (2016) for cello and marimba (with tibetian bowl), Un Rêve, Le Désir (2014) for cello and tibetian bowl, and Un souffle, le rêve... (2016) for viola by Eduardo Luís Patriarca; as well as Misty - Symphonic Poem (2016) for orchestra by Duarte P. Dinis Silva. The score edition by the MIC.PT aims at distributing scores of works by Portuguese composers, making them available online and thus promoting the knowledge and choice of Portuguese music among performers, ensembles, programmers and researchers. The MIC.PT online Score Catalogue presently includes 969 works by 63 Portuguese composers.

In February Música Hoje continues the broadcasts dedicated to the creation of Portuguese electroacoustic music started last December in order to present a broad panorama of electroacoustic music creation in Portugal.
After Filipe Pires, Cândido Lima, Jorge Peixinho, Emmanuel Numes, João Pedro Oliveira, António de Sousa Dias, Miguel Azguime, João Rafael, Pedro M. Rocha and Tomás Henriques we will continue this cycle with works by the composers Enrique X. Macías, António Ferreira and Paulo Ferreira-Lopes on 10th de February; and works by Paulo Bastos, Pedro Rebelo, José Luís Ferreira, Ka'mi , Rui Dias and João Castro Pinto on the 24th February.
In 2017 Música Hoje will take place on fridays instead of saturdays, always at 1:00 am every other week.

Dossier no. 11: Portuguese Composers
of the 20th and 21st Centuries
This February, in the context of the new series Dossiers: Portuguese Composers of the 20th and 21st Centuries, we provide a new online publication - the new edition in English of the Dossier no. 11 devoted to Vítor Rua. The series Portuguese Composers of the 20th and 21st Centuries, intends to promote the work of Portuguese contemporary composers, constituting an “introspection” in the work of every composer, being simultaneously an encouragement to explore and (re)discover their music, as well as their aesthetic and philosophic reflection. Each Dossier is built of a short biography, questionnaire/interview or musicological article, catalogue of works with two ordinations (by instrumentation and following the chronological order) and discography.

Anthology of excerpts from the aquilinian work in which more than 60 wild birds are described, as well as their habitats and relation with the Man.
This book, illustrated by dozens of watercolors by the biologist and artist Maico (Carlos Pimenta), is accompanied by an audio CD with recordings of the reading of 25 of these excerpts by Fernando Alves, enriched by bird recordings of the project "Natural Acoustic Landscapes of Portugal" and 16 original musical pieces by José Eduardo Rocha.
