ANTÓNIO DE SOUSA DIAS IN FOCUS ON THE MIC.PT IN MAY
Composer, multimedia artist and university professor. In his work António de Sousa Dias explores the fields of music creation and virtual environments, with the aim to develop assistance tools as well as to conceive and construct navigable music spaces. Along with pieces for different formations and working with diverse genres - music for film, digital art, music theatre and disciplinary crossings - his research has led him particularly towards the domains of multimedia and installation.
António de Sousa Dias was born in 1959 in Lisbon. In his education one should emphasise the doctoral degree in Musicology (Paris 8), as well as the diploma obtained at the Superior Composition Course in Lisbon. In his day-to-day practice the composer divides his activity between creation, research and teaching. Presently he is associated professor in the area of Multimedia Art at the Fine Arts Faculty of the Lisbon University.
Among António de Sousa Dias’ more recent works one should certainly highlight the projects developed with Les Phonogénistes (Vertiges de l’espace e Vertiges de l’image), as well as various works of his authorship: Ce désert est faux, the series Tonnetz, A Dama e o Unicórnio (with poetry by Maria Teresa Horta) and Mutabilis.
How and thanks to whom António de Sousa Dias discovered the universe of composition? And how does the composer lead his creative process? You will find answers to these and other questions in our In Focus section, which in May is dedicated to this composer published by the MIC.PT, whose various works will be premiered during this month.
