JAIME REIS IN FOCUS ON THE MIC.PT IN OCTOBER
This October the MIC.PT In Focus is dedicated to Jaime Reis. Currently Jaime has several new works in progress and he began last September an European tour to be finished in October. We also publish this month a new score. Jaime Reis, born in December 1983, began his musical studies in Seia. From this initial phase he highlights his valuable learning experience, thanks to the approach of the ethnomusicologist António Tilly, and the conditions provided by Seia Conservatory of Music, teachers, and family friends.
While Jaime admits that he doesn’t compose any tonal music, except as an exercise, his compositional process is initially inspired by the potential of the tools and equipment he has available. His music also tends to be inspired by phenomena in the physical world with which he creates analogies. The principles inherent to his compositional processes requires method and awareness of what he is doing in order to both develop the "matter" and be able to explain what he did, in a pedagogical perspective.
The composer Jaime Reis also stresses the importance of the regular contact with other composers such as Emmanuel Nunes and Karlheinz Stockhausen. At the same time, he emphasizes the importance of the composer's relationship with the world, also considering normal that those who compose divide their time on a number of varied functions ranging from research, editing, programming, management, and networking. Jaime Reis argues that "(...) this learning process must necessarily be continuous throughout life in some way." This position is also evident when he puts himself into perspective with his compositional process: "What fascinates me isn’t knowing that I can do anything, but rather the idea that I still don’t know what I might be able to do. My work with electronic media favored this idea."
In October visit the MIC.PT In Focus section with the questionnaire/interview to Jaime Reis.

This is an interactive audio streaming application that enables the user to receive and send audio streams to multiple users on what the authors Pedro Rebelo and Franziska Schroeder called "distributed listening". In addition to a control of the streaming performance parameters and audio quality, this application allows the user to mix up to 3 streams in a binaural mode where each stream is dynamically panned according to the geolocation of the listener and the chosen streams.
