Eduardo Luis Patriarca was born in 1970 in Porto. He began his musical studies (piano) in 1974 at the Colégio de Nossa Senhora da Esperança. In 1985 he entered the Curso de Música Silva Monteiro, concluding the Supplementary Piano Course with Sofia Matos. His further education includes studies with Joaquim Marques da Silva, History of Music and Fernando C. Lapa, Analysis and Composition Techniques. In 1990 was admitted for the Degree in Composition at the School of Music in Porto studying with Cândido Lima, Filipe Pires, Amílcar Vasques Dias and António Pinho Vargas. In the remaining areas he had as teachers Álvaro Salazar, Günther Arglebe, Miguel Ribeiro Pereira and José Luís Borges Coelho. Later, at the Lisbon School of Music he studied with António Pinho Vargas and Christopher Bochmann. During these years he was a student of Jorge Peixinho (as a private student and attending the Training Course of Vila do Conde and the Training Course for Teachers of GETAP), and he attended Emmanuel Nunes’ Seminars at the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, as well as seminars with Wilfred Jenstchz, Gherard Staebler, António de Sousa Dias, Leo Brouwer and Philippe Hurel. As a teacher he lectured in Pedroso, Espinho, Maia, Mirandela and Póvoa do Varzim. Since 1991 he teaches at the Music Academy of St. Pio X in Vila do Conde. His works have been played regularly at several locations in Portugal and abroad. Some of the works have been recorded by musicians as Duo Porquoi Pas, Nuno Aroso, Síntese, Matosinhos String Quartet, etc. He has participated as a guest and had works commissioned at the Síntese Guarda Festival, where in 2009 the Síntese Ensemble and the pianist Fausto Neves premiered his Fractal Points for piano and ensemble. Since 2004 Eduardo Patriarca has been member of the jury of the contest Marilia Rocha, piano class. In 2006 he participates as speaker at the meeting Mathematics and Music co-organized by the Science Faculty of the Porto University and Casa da Música. He presented there a lecture on fractals and spectral music. In 2008 he began his Master Degree in Composition under the supervision of Isabel Soveral at the Aveiro University.
In 2011 one should highlight the commission and performance of such Eduardo Patriarca's pieces as Ensō by Harmos Festival Orchestra, Ixchel by the guitarist Margarita Escarpa and Zazen by percussionist Nuno Aroso; in 2012 – Processione for the Matosinhos String Quartet, Auat 4 by the flutist Nuno Inácio and the pianist Paulo Pacheco, Auat 1 by the pianist Raul da Costa.
In August 2012 he participated with lectures on his work at the Temp'ora’s Meeting, Bordeaux 2012.
2013 brought the recording of Processione by the Matosinhos String Quartet, as well as Songs of Lemuria by the soprano Marina Pacheco and the pianist Olga Amaro.
Currently Eduardo Patriarca has several projects with some of the young Portuguese musicians such as Frederic Cardoso, Jorge Lima or Black and White Sextet.
For 2014 and 2015 he has scheduled the composition of Kōan, concerto for flute and orchestra, for Nuno Inácio, and he has also completed the Mayaana cycle for the Drumming – Percussion Group.
