CARLOS MARECOS "IN FOCUS" ON MIC.PT IN OCTOBER
Carlos Marecos, composer published by the mic.pt since this month, celebrates in December his 50th anniversary. On this occasion the In Focus section is dedicated to his work. Carlos Marecos graduated in Composition form the Lisbon Superior School of Music and received his Doctorate in Music at the Aveiro University, where he presented his thesis "Interaction between intervallic and spectral structures in instrumental/vocal music", tutored by João Pedro Oliveira and Christopher Bochmann. He has worked with theatre and contemporary dance and he is director of the "Ensemble Portátil", with which he has been working in the area of contemporary music and on harmonization of traditional Portuguese music. Received commissions from different entities and had his works performed in various countries. His music arises from a concept close to the idea of "Music Ecology" proposed by Gérard Grisey and Horatiu Radulescu, however applied from a less naturalistic perspective, "since the material for composition (…) results from the interaction of a more abstract plan - of the intervallic architecture, with a natural plan - the spectral side (…)", says Carlos Marecos in the Questionnaire / Interview which this month is published in the In Focus section of the mic.pt.
