ANTÓNIO FERREIRA "IN FOCUS" ON MIC.PT IN FEBRUARY
In February the mic.pt "In Focus" section presents one more Questionnaire / Interview, this time with António Ferreira, composer and consultant in sound pollution and bioacoustics, who this year celebrates his 50th anniversary. Born in Angola, he attended the Chemical Engineering course at the Superior Technical Institute in Lisbon. Then he studied Electroacoustic Composition at the Institute of Sonology at the Royal Conservatory of The Hague, having dedicated his career entirely to sound "in all of its aspects: musical, philosophical, historical and acoustic." Considering "listening" as his main "instrument", he constructs his music from "capturing" sound phenomena and from their transformation into elements of composition. This month the "In Focus" lets you discover some aesthetic and philosophical aspects concerning António Ferreira's creation, as well as how he decided to become a composer and how he sees the future of art music. On March 7th at 10 p.m. António Ferreira will also inaugurate the concert cycle, "Thursdays Open Farm - electroacoustic agriculture" ("Quintas Abertas - agricultura electroacústica"), which will be taking place at Miso Music Portugal on every first Thursday of each month.

portuguese symphony orchestra - 20 years
In February the São Carlos National Theatre celebrates the 20th Anniversary of the Portuguese Symphony Orchestra. The celebrations, between February 2 and 16, will explore the most varied areas of the Orchestra's activity, lyrical, symphonic and pedagogical. The events' programme will include international and Portuguese repertoire (Joly Braga Santos and Luís Tinoco, among others). On February 16 the Orchestra invites the audiences to get to know its activity in a unique way, giving them the opportunity to visit the São Carlos Theatre and simultaneously to get to know its chamber music ensembles.
