This work was commissioned by the clarinetist Luís Gomes and the Lisbon Contemporary Music Group, thereby the piece is originally written for this specific ensemble: flute, clarinet in Bb, violin and cello. The clarinet is presented primarily as a solo instrument, although not totally, when the other instruments start to be somehow infected by the first one. The piece is directly linked to the concept of “open music”, and its various sections are open to different forms of interpretation, where part of the decisions are taken by the performers. The contrasting sections come from a sense of instability and unease, transversal in the whole piece.
